Warping Ahead: Prashant Group’s Vision for India’s Weaving Future

As India aims to expand its global footprint in weaving technologies, Prashant Group stands at the forefront of innovation and self-reliance. In this interview, Ms. Amoli Shah, Director, Prashant Group of Industries shares insights on automation, sustainability, and future-ready weaving solutions.
Q. Prashant Group has long been a pioneer in weaving preparation machinery. How has the company evolved over the past few years in response to changing industry demands?
Prashant Group is the pioneer in introducing high tech sectional warping machine in India since 1987. Over the years, group has added various products in weaving preparatory. Motto of Prashant group is to provide world class technology at appropriate price. We had initiated our manufacturing under different technical collaborations and joint ventures from renown companies of Europe and USA as our starting point. Over the years, we developed and added many other products as per the changing demand of Industry and currently Prashant group is a trusted choice of every weaver in India. If we talk about export, Prashant group has its footprints in over 50 countries including Europe, North America, South America, Russia and southeast Asia.
Q. What are the latest technological innovations introduced by Prashant Group in weaving machinery and accessories, and how have they been received by the market?
At Prashant, we have a very strong R & D division whose focus is technological innovations. We have developed many innovative products over the years which are well received by Indian as well as foreign market.
Our latest innovations are in the field of technical textiles. From successfully running 5400mm sectional warping and direct beaming machines from finest to coarsest yarn, to running specialized direct warping machine for glass fiber without sizing. We are the pioneer in India for direct beaming machine for PP and HDPE tapes. The fabric manufactured from these machines is used to make reinforced fabric to be placed for road construction or to use under the dam. Our sectional warper is used to make fabric which needs beaming tension over 60000N. Prashant Group has provided special inspection machines and material handling equipment for technical textile solutions for working width as long as 6000mm.
Prashant Group has developed many specialized yarn tensioners from a very low-tension range of 20gm to a high range of 250 gm. We have patented our electromagnetic tensioner where the tensioner range is within 2 grams.
Robotic sectional warping machine is Asia’s fastest robotic machine which is ideal solution for warp length of up to 2200 meters. Complete leasing function is automatic through robots, which saves warping time significantly. Increase productivity by 50%. Space saving by 35% and this machine can operate with even 24 cones. Besides these, Prashant Group has developed sustainable ecofriendly indigo sheet dyeing machine with nitro chamber. It’s a cutting-edge technology with many advantages over conventional system.
Q. With Industry 4.0 becoming central to textile manufacturing, how is Prashant Group integrating automation, IoT, or AI into its product portfolio?
AI and IoT is very important tool with which small and medium-sized textile enterprises can be benefited in multiple way. This is not only useful for textile manufacturer, but very important for machinery manufacturer also.
At Prashant Group, we have integrated this technology in some of our machines to do data analysis, predictive maintenance as well as for minimizing human error. We have developed algorithm which helps in anticipating probable equipment problems by evaluating data. This can reduce machine downtime due to maintenance concerns. Due to predictive maintenance, equipment is maintained properly, which reduces unexpected breakdowns and increase output. We can provide real-time monitoring and feedback throughout the production process. Data analysis is done through AI which help in detecting patterns and trends. This data is crucial for continuous improvement in product quality.
Q. India is focusing on enhancing its weaving capacity. What role do you see Prashant Group playing in supporting this national goal?
Weaving preparatory is the most important machinery to enhance weaving capacity. Prashant group is aligning with our honourable Prime Minister’s vision – “Make in India”. We are providing import substitute high quality preparatory including warping and sizing for spun, filament, jute and fibre glass, sectional warping for every yarn, indigo dyeing, single end sizing, different kind of manual and motorised beam handling trolleys, computerised vertical beam storage system as well as fabric inspection machine which cater to Indian corporate sector as well as decentralised sector. For weaving preparatory, India doesn’t need to depend on foreign machine manufacture.
Q. How does Prashant Group maintain a balance between cost-efficiency and quality while designing weaving preparatory machines for SMEs and large-scale mills alike?
For any product from our group, Quality comes first. When we design any machine, we use the best practices. We have in house fabrication facility equipped with high tech Laser Cutting, Plasma cutting, CNC bending, Robotic welding, CNC tool centre, Milling and Drilling machines, Plate bending and rolling machine as well as multiple Lathe machines. Due to this, we have control on quality and price. We are not relying on any third-party software for our machine functionality. Software is also developed by our internal recourses. As we have major market share in India, economies of scale help us in maintaining cost-efficiency and quality.
Q. Can you elaborate on your approach to sustainability in weaving machinery – be it energy efficiency, waste reduction, or greener materials?
Sustainability will be one of the most important factors going forward for Indian textile industry. More and more brands are now demanding sustainable products. To be able to compete globally, Indian textile manufacturer has to adapt sustainable processes and materials. More and more textile factories and manufacturing units across India are emerging with solar panels on their rooftops. This reduces carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency.
Any dyeing process requires lot of water and chemical usage. At Prashant Group, we have developed special nitro technology, which is a cutting-edge denim dyeing technology and it has given miraculous results in terms of waste reduction and energy efficiency. By this technology, water reduction is about 50%, Chemical reduction is about 15-20% and energy saving is about 20%. , manufacture can get similar shade with only 2-3 dyeing tank compared to conventional technology where 8 -10 dyeing tanks are use. This way, significant space saving is also achieved along with greener materials.
Q. What are the key global markets for Prashant Group’s weaving solutions, and how are you expanding your international presence?
Prashant Group is exporting its products to over 50 countries worldwide. The key global markets are Europe, South America, Russia, Southeast Asia and few countries of Africa too. Normally we participate in major international exhibitions to reach out new markets. We have our sales network in major countries to provide sales and service for particular region. On top of this, our strong customer base help us expand our reach in particular region.
Q. How important is customer support and service in maintaining competitiveness, and what are Prashant Group’s key initiatives in this domain?
Weaving preparatory is heart of weaving. So, it is very important that preparatory machine should perform trouble free. Customer support and service is of utmost importance. We have a very strong service network all across India and few places outside India also. Our experienced service engineers give service support in shortest possible time across the globe. We have our own offices at major location in India where we maintain critical spare part supplies. We have our customise service app where customer can enter any queries or complain regarding machine and our dedicated team immediately address the issue. Our prime focus is customer satisfaction.
Q. What challenges do you foresee for Indian weaving machinery manufacturers, and how should the industry collectively address them?
India’s weaving machinery manufacturers face several fundamental challenges. For high-speed air jet looms, they face competition from Europe and Japan. To make high-speed high-quality looms, we need precision component manufactures. We lack such vendor base. If some critical parts are imported, then the price competitiveness will not be there.
For water jet looms, they face competition from China. Chinese looms are at very competitive rates due to many factors like labour efficiency, availability of precision parts, economies of scale and government support.
Industry needs to spend on R&D and make sure high-quality components are available in India. We also need to focus on labour productivity and availability of skilled labour. India has huge requirement of shuttle less weaving machine and unfortunately, we are importing majority of it.
Q. As a young leader, what is your vision for the future of Prashant Group and for India’s position in the global textile machinery sector?
The textile industry in India is expected to grow, driven by increasing demand, technological advancements, and government support. India has set an ambitious target to reach $100 billion in textile and apparel exports by 2030. This is very ambitious target but to achieve the same, there will be huge demand of textile machinery. Currently India is a significant player in the global textile machinery industry, holding a notable position due to itsstrong textile and apparel manufacturing base and export capabilities.While not the largest producer of machinery itself, India is a major exporter and consumer of textile machinery. 80% of India’s textile sector is in MSME. Indian machinery manufacturers are catering to larger requirement of these sector.
