Swiss Textile Machinery Industry Marks 85 Years of Innovation and Global Leadership

The Swiss textile machinery industry, an important sector of Swissmem, is celebrating a significant milestone—85 years of collective excellence, innovation and collaboration. The journey began on 9 December 1940, when representatives of 22 pioneering Swiss companies came together in Zurich to establish the association during a challenging global period. Recognising the power of unity, the founders sought to coordinate activities, reduce destructive competition and create a common platform to drive innovation across the industry.
The legacy of that vision remains strong today. Remarkably, more than half of the original founding companies are still in existence—some operating under their original names, while others have evolved through mergers or integration into new structures. This continuity stands as a testament to the resilience, adaptability and long-term outlook that have consistently defined the Swiss textile machinery sector.
Over the decades, the industry has grown into a key pillar of European textile machinery manufacturing, supported by a robust global network of partners and customers. Innovation, flexibility and perseverance have remained central to its success, enabling Swiss companies to maintain technological leadership across the entire textile value chain.
“We like to sincerely thank our members, partners, customers, and friends. Your dedication and pioneering spirit keep our industry vibrant and forward-looking,” says Cornelia Buchwalder, Secretary General at the Swiss Textile Machinery Association.
As the industry honours its rich heritage, it also looks ahead with confidence—committed to shaping the next chapter of Swiss textile machinery excellence.
