As the global home textiles industry prepares to converge in Frankfurt, Heimtextil 2026 promises to reflect both continuity and change in a rapidly evolving market. With rising international participation, a reimagined hall layout and a strong focus on design, technology and sustainability, the upcoming edition is set to offer fresh perspectives for exhibitors and buyers alike. In this interview, Margit Herberth and Bettina Bär, Directors, Heimtextil, share insights into final preparations, key highlights, India’s growing role at the fair, and the broader trends shaping the future of the global home textiles landscape.

Countdown to Heimtextil
Just a few days before the start of Heimtextil 2026, “We’re in the final preparations. It’s always great to see the exhibitors building up and the fair taking shape on the grounds in Frankfurt,” says Bettina Bär.

3.000 exhibitors from 66 countries are taking part. The organisers are happy about the increase in internationality. This year, a new, optimised hall layout brings product groups closer together and helps buyers navigate the fair more efficiently.

“Different country pavilions are also planned for 2026. We’re looking forward, among others, to presentations from India, Pakistan, China, Taiwan and Vietnam. Key highlights include the Heimtextil Trends 26/27 by Alcova. Under the motto “Craft is a verb”, they explore how craftsmanship and AI open up new creative perspectives together,” informs Bär.

Designer and architect Patricia Urquiola will present a new immersive installation with “among-all”. The design experience uses AI to make visitors part of the installation.

The segment Carpets & Rugs expands to four hall levels. This makes Frankfurt the central hub for the global carpet industry. “We see a strong momentum from Indian exhibitors here. The new Future Floor area creates a curated forum for trends, knowledge transfer and business potential tailored to the sector. We’re very much looking forward to the exchange and new ideas here,” adds Bär.

India’s growing presence
Indian manufacturers and buyers are an important part of the Heimtextil community. India consistently ranks among the top five participating nations at Heimtextil. This shows how important the Indian home textile market is for Heimtextil and for global sourcing.

Margit Herberth states, “570 exhibitors from India are participating 2026. They are present across almost all product segments – from decorative and upholstery fabrics to Bed, Bath & Living and, very prominently, Carpets & Rugs. We’re looking forward to the collections they will present this year.”

Shifting market trends
The global home textiles market is undergoing major change. Markets and supply chains remain under pressure due to geopolitical crises, economic volatility, new legal requirements, inflation and high energy costs.

“At the same time, we see, that consumers’ expectations are shifting. They are becoming more conscious and informed. Transparency and sustainability matter more than ever, while personalised products and strong design stories are gaining relevance,” adds Herberth.

Digital technologies – especially AI – are accelerating these shifts. AI is reshaping creative processes, workflows and business models across the entire value chain. Overall, the industry is moving away from pure efficiency towards resilience, responsibility and innovation. Those who invest in circular systems, digital traceability and fair production today are setting the foundation for their competitiveness tomorrow.

India’s global impact
India plays a central and dynamic role in the global home textiles industry. “Indian manufacturers are known for combining deep-rooted expertise with a strong manufacturing base and innovative power. They are renowned for combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology – ranging from intricate weaving and detailed handwork to advanced, high-tech production processes,” explains Bär.

Bär further says, “We see an impressive product range with Indian producers. They cover the entire value chain – from fibre to finished product – and offer a wide range of solutions, from high-end contract textiles to innovative and sustainable materials.”

This ability to combine scale, craftsmanship and innovation makes India a highly trusted sourcing partner and an indispensable contributor to the international home textiles market.

Spotlight on innovation
For the first time, at Heimtextil, Carpets and Rugs is covering four hall levels, offering a complete market overview across machine-woven and hand-woven carpets, high-volume suppliers, international pavilions and premium unique pieces.

A new highlight: the Future Floor area in Hall 12.0. It is a curated forum dedicated to carpet trends, innovation, knowledge transfer and business opportunities. Future Floor offers a tailored programme for the carpet industry – with inspiration, expert lectures, guided tours and networking formats. A curated special show stages innovative exhibitor products, new designs and sustainable material solutions. The high-calibre lectures in the adjacent Talk Spot shed light on current trends, technologies and future topics that support business development in the industry. Indian producers are ideally positioned to benefit from this new platform.

Enhanced visitor experience
At Heimtextil 2026, visitors can really expect a lot in terms of content and hands-on inspiration. “One of the highlights is our strong content programme. The Texpertise Stage in Hall 6.0 is the central place for future business topics, design and everyday workflows. This year, AI is very much in focus – while sustainability continues to be a key theme, with dedicated talks and guided tours as part of our Econogy programme,” informs Herberth.

The Talk Spot in Hall 3.1 is all about interior design, architecture and hospitality, with plenty of room for professional exchange around functional contract textiles. It’s also where Heimtextil’s Interior.Architecture.Hospitality Talks & Tours start. Over in Hall 12.0, the Talk Spot in the Future Floor area offers tailored content especially for the flooring and carpet industry.

For creative inspiration, visitors can explore the Heimtextil Trends 26/27, curated by Alcova, as well as Patricia Urquiola’s installation “among-all”, which brings together AI-driven design, sustainability and immersive experiences.

And finally, with an optimised hall layout and newly structured areas, Heimtextil 2026 is easier to navigate and more efficient overall. All in all, it’s about giving visitors clear orientation, fresh ideas and very concrete opportunities for their business.

“We’re very much looking forward to Heimtextil 2026 starting in just a few days. And to seeing the global industry here in Frankfurt!” concludes Herberth.
