Uttar Pradesh Positioned as Global Textile Hub at UP TEX 2026 Summit

Highlights state’s textile potential at UP TEX 2026.
Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, said the state is poised to emerge as a global textile hub and urged investors to tap its vast potential to build an internationally competitive textile and apparel ecosystem. The CM was addressing UP TEX 2026, organised by the Directorate of Handloom and Textiles, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).
UP TEX 2026, being held in Lucknow on September 8-9, has brought together policymakers, manufacturers, exporters, investors and other industry stakeholders to explore opportunities across the textile and apparel value chain and strengthen government-industry collaboration.
The Chief Minister said that UP stands for “unlimited potential” and has all the ingredients to become a global textile powerhouse, from its rich handloom and handicraft heritage and skilled workforce to its expanding infrastructure and investor-friendly policies. The focus, he said, is to convert this potential into investment, employment and exports.
The CM highlighted textiles as a key sector for large-scale employment generation, particularly for women, youth, artisans and MSMEs across rural and semi-urban Uttar Pradesh. He stressed the need to strengthen the entire value chain, from raw materials and manufacturing to processing, apparel, branding and exports. He also underlined the importance of integrating Uttar Pradesh’s extensive network of MSMEs, weavers, artisans and traditional textile clusters into national and global value chains.
The CM said the aim is to combine Uttar Pradesh’s traditional textile strengths with modern technology, innovation and global market opportunities. Greater collaboration between government and industry, he added, would be critical to unlocking investment, boosting exports and creating a world-class textile ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that UP TEX 2026 would catalyse new investments, partnerships and business opportunities, further strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as a preferred destination for textile investment and its contribution to India’s emergence as a global textile leader.
Speaking at the event, Uttar Pradesh Minister for Khadi C Village Industries, Sericulture, Handloom C Textiles, Rakesh Sachan, said that with its large domestic market, strategic location, improving connectivity, skilled workforce and diverse industrial base, Uttar Pradesh offers significant opportunities for companies looking to establish or expand textile and apparel operations in India.
The inaugural programme also saw the Chief Minister launch the Handloom Weaver Prosperity Scheme, Uttar Pradesh Textile Sector Training C Skill Development Scheme and the UPTEX Mitra portal. A CITI study on “AI, Automation C Digitalisation Readiness in the Indian Textile C Apparel Industry”, prepared with support from the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA), was also unveiled at the event.
Industry representatives who spoke at the event included CITI Chairman Ashwin Chandran, TEXPROCIL Vice Chairman Ravi Sam and Ramky Group Chairman Shri Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, among others. They highlighted the immense potential Uttar Pradesh offers to the business community.
Following the inaugural event, the CM held a separate roundtable discussion with select industry representatives from the entire textile value chain who shared their expectations of policy support from the UP government and their plans for investment and expansion in the state. Assurance was provided that all possible assistance would be provided to the investor community.
