Combining engineering excellence with customer-centric innovation, Groz-Beckert is helping shape the next generation of textile manufacturing worldwide.

From precision-engineered needles and card clothing to advanced solutions for knitting, weaving, nonwovens, sewing, and tufting, Groz-Beckert has evolved into a trusted technology partner for textile manufacturers worldwide. In this exclusive interview with Textile Sphere India, Sanjay Chawla, Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Groz-Beckert Asia Pvt. Ltd., shares insights on sustainability, automation, digitalization, and India’s growing importance in the global textile landscape. He also highlights how Groz-Beckert’s latest innovations are helping manufacturers improve productivity, quality, and resource efficiency while preparing for the next generation of textile manufacturing.

Q. Groz-Beckert is globally recognized for its precision components and textile production solutions. How has the company evolved from a component supplier to a strategic technology partner for textile manufacturers?

SC: Over the years, Groz-Beckert has evolved from being a manufacturer of industrial machine needles into a global technology partner for the textile industry. Guided by our philosophy, “We advance the world of production by the power of our precision,” we serve customers across knitting, weaving, nonwovens, tufting, sewing and carding.

With a portfolio of more than 70,000 products, we support virtually every machine model used in textile production. Our expertise extends beyond individual components to fabric-forming and joining technologies that help manufacturers achieve higher efficiency, improved fabric quality and enhanced machine performance.

Today, Groz-Beckert operates in more than 150 countries, supported by an extensive service and subsidiary network. Beyond products, we work closely with manufacturers to optimise machine performance, improve fabric quality and enhance operational efficiency through reliable service and technical support.

Q. India continues to be one of the world’s most important textile manufacturing hubs. How do you assess the current opportunities and growth potential of the Indian textile industry for Groz-Beckert?

SC: India continues to be one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing textile markets, with an increasingly important role in global exports. For Groz-Beckert, this creates opportunities across the textile value chain as manufacturers continue to invest in technology, quality improvements and greater operational efficiency.

The industry’s scale, growing manufacturing capabilities and increasing focus on value-added products make India an important market for us. As the sector continues to modernise and expand, we see strong potential across multiple textile segments.

Q. Sustainability and resource efficiency are increasingly influencing investment decisions. How are Groz-Beckert’s innovations helping mills improve productivity while reducing energy consumption and environmental impact?

SC: Many of our innovations are designed with a clear focus on improving efficiency, reducing downtime and helping customers use resources more effectively. Our products support textile manufacturing through energy savings, extended service life and consistent product quality.

For example, the newly developed LCmax™ needle, with its unique wave-shaped shank geometry, reduces friction within the needle trick. This results in lower machine temperatures, energy savings of up to 20%, and the ability to operate machines at higher speeds.

For staple fibre applications, the SAN™ SF needle and SNK SF sinker combination help reduce contamination and extend cleaning intervals, contributing to improved operational efficiency and fabric quality. DUR needles help customers achieve a longer life cycle in nonwovens production, while SAN sewing needles help manufacturers achieve the highest seam quality, even on lightweight fabrics.

Q. Automation and digitalization are reshaping textile manufacturing. What key technological trends do you believe will have the greatest impact on spinning, knitting, weaving, nonwovens, and sewing operations over the next few years?

SC: With the expansion of AI in every industry, textile industry too will keep exploring enhanced automation & digitization to improve efficiency & reducing defects in the process. Standalone machine automation will move towards connected, data-driven, increasingly autonomous production systems. Focus will be to increase monitoring the quality of output during the production process only through cameras & sensors that are linked to an AI backed system which can analyse the faults leading to machine adjustments – either autonomous or operator driven. Lot of machine data can be analysed to suggest preventive maintenance of machines to reduce down time. In the garment industry, there is a huge scope of automation to increase overall productivity.

Q. Groz-Beckert offers solutions across knitting, weaving, nonwovens, tufting, sewing, and carding. Which segments are witnessing the strongest demand and innovation momentum in India today?

SC: The outlook for the Indian textile industry remains very positive. As India further establishes itself as a competitive and high-quality manufacturing hub, we expect growth momentum to continue over the next five to seven years.

Domestic consumption is also expanding, supported by rising incomes, a young consumer base, growing digital influence and the continued expansion of retail networks. We are also seeing brands strengthen their presence in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets.

As a result, demand is healthy across the industry, with capacity additions particularly visible in knitting, weaving, nonwovens and garments.

Q. The company has invested in customer-centric initiatives such as application support, training, and demonstration facilities. How important are these initiatives in helping customers achieve higher quality and operational excellence?

SC: Higher quality and operational excellence are achieved not only through the right products, but also through the right support and expertise. Customers increasingly look for partners who can help them improve productivity, quality and efficiency across their operations.

At Groz-Beckert, we support manufacturers through technical expertise, application support and on-ground engagement, helping them get the best performance and quality outcomes from their operations. Our production facilities in Chandigarh, Pune and Kandla, along with our sales and service network across India, help us stay close to customers and respond quickly to their requirements.
